SMARTboard – Updating Notebook Software

If you’re using SMART’s Notebook software you have probably received an update notice. If you haven’t already received the notice you will. In the past you just clicked on update and it updated automatically. Now when you try to update, you will receive the following message:

smartupdatenotice

SMART, in their infinite wisdom (*insert eye roll here*) has decided to start offering subscription based web software. In short, that means you now have to pay for it. (I could go on a full “Sandy rant” about their promise of free software when they first developed it, but I’ll spare you my indignation.)

So, you’ll want to set your preferences so the Notebook software no longer automatically checks for updates. To do that:

Click on your Start button StartButton

Click All Programs >> SMART Technologies folder >> SMART Tools folder >> SMART Product Update

Uncheck the “Check for updates automatically…” box at the bottom of the dialog box. (See below.)

Click the red X in the corner to close the dialog box.
