Mint Crinkles
⅓ c. shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sugar
1 ½ c. flour
½ tsp. baking powder
2 pkg. Layered choc. Mint candies
¼ tsp. salt
2 eggs
Preheat oven to 350°.

In heavy saucepan, heat and stir the ¾ cup (24 pieces) chopped candies until melted and smooth. Remove from heat. Cool about 15 minutes.

In a large bowl, beat shortening with electric mixer on medium high speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar, baking powder, and salt; beat until well blended. Beat in cooled chocolate, eggs, and vanilla. Beat or stir in flour. Cover and refrigerate for 3 hours or until dough is easy to handle.

Shape dough into ¼ inch balls, using a tablespoon of dough.. Place balls 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. (Tops should crack) Sprinkle a few candy pieces on and bake for 1 more minute. Cool on wire rack.
