Scalloped Potatoes with Ham
½ c. chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
2 T. butter or margarine
2 T. all-purpose flour
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
1¼ c. milk
3 c. slice potatoes
1 c. cubed precooked ham
Grease 1½ quart casserole pan; set aside. For sauce, in a medium saucepan cook onion and garlic in butter until tender. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Thinly slice potatoes. Place half the sliced potatoes in the prepared casserole, and then half the hams, then half the sauce, repeat twice.

Bake, covered, in a 350° F oven for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake for 15-20 minutes more or until potatoes are tender.

Variation:
Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes - Add ¾ c. shredded American cheese into thickened sauce and omit salt (because cheese has salt in it)
