After 20 years in the classroom (12 years in 2nd grade & 8 years in 5th grade), in 2015 I moved into the "K-8 Literacy Instructional Coach" position. Now I get to work with teachers and students from kindergarten all the way through 8th grade and I love it! Hugs and short vowels with the little ones at the elementary in the morning and fist bumps and author's tone with the tall ones at the middle school in the afternoon. I work alongside teachers as they seek to improve their instruction, unit plans, and assessments. Sometimes that involves working in the classroom with the teacher, while other times I pull a few kids out to see if I can get some insight into what they might need. I research a lot and create resources. Every day brings new challenges and I enjoy doing something different every day.

I grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated with more than 500 other kids in my class from Washington Senior High. I then went to Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa and married Scott in 1990. My family and I live on a farm just 3 miles west of Hospers. My kids, Natalie and Kyle, grew up entirely too fast. Natalie now works for Iowa Corn in Des Moines. Kyle is in high school and enjoys helping out with chores and playing football, basketball, and soccer. When I'm not at school, I'm usually busy with housework and my own homework. (Seems like I'm ALWAYS taking some kind of class!) I enjoy participating in church activities, READING, learning on the computer, going to movies, shopping at the "teacher store", and watching kids (both my own kids, and my former students) play sports. Go Dutch!
