I am Mrs. Foughty and I get to teach every child at Orange City Elementary School! Each student in our building has music either two or three times in our six day cycle. The music program here supports a spiraling curriculum that gradually builds on the skills and concepts learned at each level. We sing, move, play instruments and have fun. Your child will be very well prepared to begin learning a string instrument in third grade and a band instrument or chorus music in 5th grade after completing music classes here.

We offer several performance opportunities through-out the year at each grade level, both in our school gym and at various sites through-out the community. In addition, fifth graders have the opportunity to be a part of a volunteer chorus that meets during the school day and two different Honor Choir Festivals.

It is my goal that every child becomes musically literate and is included. Orange City Elementary-Where the Pride is Born!

Professional and Educational Background

I graduated from Dunlap High School in Dunlap, Iowa and received my Bachelor of Music degree from Iowa State University in Ames. I taught K-12 vocal music in David City, Nebraska for two and a half years before joining the Orange City Elementary School staff in 1988. I have training in Orff and Kodaly approaches to music education as well as Kindermusik (pre-school music education) and am very interested in music literacy for all children.

Life Outside Orange City Elementary

My husband Tom and I own Windmill Park Jewelers in downtown Orange City. Our family includes Renee and her husband, Brent, McKenzie, Claire, Brendan, and Carter. I enjoy making music with my family at home and with the Praise Team at American Reformed Church. Some of my "extra-musical" activities include sewing and knitting, spending time with my family, and reading.
