Welcome to the Fifth Grade Band Information Page. I am Sheryl Grotenhuis and I am the Fifth Grade Band Teacher. Fifth Grade is the year that students are given the opportunity to learn to play an instrument and begin participating in large group band rehearsals. First semester is a time to learn many basic on their chosen instrument through individual lessons so they are able to participate in large group band second semesters as well as continue to have an individual or group lesson. A concert is usually scheduled the middle of May for the band to demonstrate for parents what they have learned during the year.

Professional and Educational Background

I graduated from Boyden-Hull High School. I received my degree in Music Education from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA. For eight years I taught at Hull Christian School K - 8 Vocal and Instrumental Music. I began my work at Orange City Elementary School in 1992, where I teach instrumental music at the Fifth Grade Level on a half time basis.

Life Outside Orange City Elementary

I'm married to Evan, who is a farmer/truck driver. We have three children, Karissa, Alicia, and Joshua. Karissa and Alicia are both married and are music teachers and Josh is a police officer in Florida. I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, home making, reading, and being involved in church activities at the Maurice Reformed Church. I'm the Adult Choir director and also teach Sunday School.
